The 18th edition of the Etna SuperMarathon.

From an idea of US Tosi of Tarvisio, back in 2004, the Guiness WR feat of running up the highest active volcano in Europe, starting from an altitude of 0 m a.s.l. fit up to an altitude of 3000 m, covering the classic distance of the Marathon, was born.
The feat, originally succeeded by two of the three participants, has now become the world's largest uphill running race, the only one capable of running a marathon with an altitude difference of 3000 m D+.

The SuperMarathon gives us an all-terrain race:

The race

An up & down on the volcano

The Super RoundTrip is the off-road race of the Etna SuperMarathon, designed to allow athletes to tackle the dirt road leading to the Etna Observatory and then quickly descend toward the finish line through volcanic sand gullies.

The first segment of the race is all uphill, with an elevation gain of approximately 1,200m+ in 10km. The second, shorter segment, at 4.5km, will tackle the same elevation gain, but downstream.

Athletes will start from Piano Provenzana, at 1,800m above sea level, and climb along a dirt road, amid breathtaking views and lunar landscapes, past new and old volcanic cones and majestic lava flows.

The finish line is at Piano delle Concazze, an endless terrace of gravel, to be traversed in its entirety before a very steep climb to the volcanological observatory, before moving on to the most fun part: a lightning-fast descent into the valley!

The finish line is set at Piano Provenzana, after 4.5 km of fun!
